According to the Administrative Code of the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology, continuing education (CE) is the process through which licensed psychologists review psychological concepts and techniques, acquire new knowledge or skills relevant to their work, and improve their competence in current skills.  These activities are intended to supplement what has already been attained in training and practice.  Licensed psychologists in Alabama are required to obtain 20 hours of continuing education per year for license renewal.  Up to 6 hours of "surplus” hours from one year may be carried over to the subsequent year.  The continuing education requirement for license renewal for psychological technicians is 10 hours per year, and up to 3 hours may be carried over from the previous year.  Continuing education requirements are on an annual basis, and it is the responsibility of each licensed professional to submit to the Board of Examiners evidence of having obtained the required CE credits with the annual license renewal application. The Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology recognizes American Psychological Association (APA)-approved sponsors as providers of continuing education for licensed psychologists and psychological technicians. 

The Alabama Psychological Association strives to provide superior continuing education opportunities and does so by two methods: 

• Through sponsorship of both single workshops and the workshops included in the annual convention.
